ADOPTION OF EMERGENCY ORDINANCE IMPLEMENTING FIRE RESTRICTION IN PITKIN
At a special meeting on June 25 the Pitkin Town Council adopted an ordinance that provides that any time Gunnison County establishes a fire ban the ban will apply to Pitkin. A three-fourths vote of the Council was necessary to
put the ordinance into effect immediately and it passed unanimously. The ordinance provides that any time the Gunnison County Commission imposes fire restrictions on unincorporated Gunnison County the restrictions will apply
to Pitkin. When Gunnison County Commissioners elevate or rescind a fire ban that will also apply to Pitkin. As a result, Pitkin is now under a Stage 2 Fire Restriction which bans a fire, campfire, or stove fire. This includes
charcoal grills and barbecues, coal and wood burning stoves. Stoves, grills, and lanterns using LP gas or pressurized gas may be used and residential wood burning stoves with a spark arrester may be used.
