Did you know ... that 69% of plastic bottles don’t get recycled and 45% of aluminum cans end up in the garbage? Liquids often spoil a whole load of otherwise recyclable paper. That’s why its time to get back to the basics of good recycling. We can make a change one community at a time!
Info was taken from the Waste Management brochure and the US Environmental Protection Agency.
When you register for this recycling service you will choose an in-home receptacle sized suitably for your household. We currently provide 14 gal. and 18 gal. receptacles. A one-time deposit
of $35.00 is required for each receptacle at the time of registration. In this bin you will collect prepared recyclables until the scheduled pick-up day (twice a month). Our team will take the filled receptacle and leave you an empty
bin of the same-size, clean and ready for use!
This service is available to you for the low price of $20/month per household for residential recycling. Our program can be customized further with pick-up/drop-off options for rural customers.
Remember ... recycling significantly reduces the amount of waste a household will produce. This reduces trash services and costs. Please contact us for special pick-up times, additional receptacles, and/or business
and special event recycling pricing.

For only $20.00/month you will receive all of the benefits outlined in this document as well as the priceless satisfaction that comes with being a good steward of the environment at only a fraction of the effort.
We care about your recycling experience and want it to be as simple and care-free as possible. This is why we do not require you to sort items by type.
We appreciate your cooperation!
The Pitkin Green Team is proud to coordinate our efforts with various recycling opportunities in the county and the state.
Aluminum, tin, plastics 1 & 2, cardboard, green, brown, and clear glass, newspaper and office paper are taken to the Gunnison County Recycling Center and deposited at no cost. Plastics #3, #5, #7, and blue glass are accepted by the Waste
Management transfer station for a small fee, and is eventually taken to the Grand Junction recycling facilities. Plastic grocery bags are taken to
the Gunnison City Market’s bag recycling program, and batteries are taken to Gunnison’s Ace Hardware for recycling.
We are excited to provide these recycling opportunities to the residents of our valley!
At this time we are unable to accept electronic recycling. Gunnison County contracts with Metech Recycling for electronics. These items may be taken to the City of Gunnison Public Works at 1100 W. Virginia Ave, only on the first Monday of the month from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Electronic recycling cost is $.75/lb. Please call the City of Gunnison Public Works at (970) 641-8020 with specific electronic recycling questions.
For disposal of Liquid Items, please call the Gunnison County Landfill at (970)641-5522.
